WHY THE MAGAZINE EXISTS
Because between a release, an announcement, a success or a controversy, there is almost always a bigger story worth telling
BL and GL cultures move quickly. New series emerge, careers take shape, pairings are formed, music travels, events cross borders and conversations can shift almost overnight
In this constant movement, it becomes easy to remember what happened without always remembering what those moments actually represented
OFF SCRIPT WAS CREATED TO MAKE ROOM FOR BOTH
To take the time to look back at a career rather than remembering only its most visible moments. To understand what changes within the industry tell us about the people shaping it. To document releases and red carpets, but also the stories, decisions and changes that exist behind them
Because a series is rarely just a series, a song is rarely just a release, and an event is rarely just a performance
Together, all these moments tell the story of where BL and GL cultures have been, where they stand today and where they might be heading next
OUR SECTIONS
Six sections, six ways to explore the industry.
From individual careers to the major shifts transforming the industry, OFF SCRIPT moves between conversations, profiles, analysis and current affairs to explore BL and GL cultures from different perspectives
01.
Long-form profiles tracing the journey behind a career
The beginnings, turning points, choices and experiences that exist beyond its most visible successes
02.
Conversations that give the people behind the projects space to talk about their work, their experiences, their ambitions and the stories they want to tell
03.
A broader look at the forces shaping BL and GL cultures their history, evolution, audiences, industries and the transformations that extend beyond individual productions
04.
Reviews that go beyond simply asking whether a series works or not, looking instead at its writing, characters, direction, themes and what it leaves behind
05.
A monthly look at the releases, announcements, music projects and new developments shaping the BL and GL landscape
06.
From fan meetings and international tours to festivals, award ceremonies and red carpets, a look at the spaces where the industry meets its audience and the wider world
OUR PERSPECTIVE
Tell the story before summarising it, provide context before commenting on it
OFF SCRIPT is built on the idea that a work, a career or a shift within the industry cannot always be understood through an announcement, a trend or a handful of figures
We want to take the time to revisit individual journeys, place events back into their context and give more space to the people shaping this industry beyond their most visible moments
That also means looking at BL and GL cultures without trying to idealise everything they produce, while refusing to reduce their issues to their most negative aspects
SIMPLY LOOKING BEYOND
OUR TEAM
ASH / @theblgod_
Ash has been passionate about BL since his teenage years. He first discovered the genre through books, particularly manga and fanfiction, before his interest grew even further through the world of BL dramas
More recently, historical BL dramas such as Memoir of Rati, I Feel You Linger in the Air and The Edge of Horizon have particularly captured his attention
With experience across editorial work, audiovisual production and design, joining the OFF SCRIPT project felt like a natural choice. Today, Ash brings that same energy and determination to creating content for OFF SCRIPT, from articles to daily news across social media, with the hope of seeing the project continue to grow over time
FAVOURITE SERIES
Some of my favourite series are Khemjira, 180 Degree Longitude Passes Through Us, The Eighth Sense and The Edge of Horizon
I tend to prefer more mature, psychologically driven series, although historical BL dramas are definitely my current guilty pleasure !
ESTELLE / @beyond_our_screens
Estelle first discovered BL several years ago through manga and their anime adaptations, before moving on to dramas and gradually developing an interest in the BL industry as a whole, with a particular focus today on Thai productions
Beyond the series themselves, she is especially interested in artists’ careers, directing, the evolution of the industry and everything that develops around the works. It was this desire to go beyond immediate news that led her to develop Beyond Our Screens, and later to create OFF SCRIPT as a space with a stronger focus on research, analysis and context
FAVOURITE SERIES
Some of my favourite series are Manner of Death, Not Me and Godless Bless You From Death
I have a clear preference for darker stories, investigations and series where psychology and character writing are given real weight. And although it is not a BL, Mr. Kill is definitely one of my current obsessions, particularly because of the strength of its characters
